Tourism Catalonia is a semi independent area of Spain with a wealth of tourist attractions and areas of outstanding beauty. Locally The Bay of Roses has a variety of landscapes and facilities that cater to many differing tastes and requirements, the Emporia plain has vast stretches of vineyards, olive groves, orchards and sunflowers meeting the base of the Pyrenees Mountains where higher up there are the skiing resorts within an hour or so drive, here is where the mountains meet the Costa Brava Mediterranean beaches where one can relax and sunbathe.

Roses itself dates back to the 8th century and is a fishing port town. With a lovely Mediterranean beach and promenade for long walks with restaurants and bars to cater to all tastes ranging from Catalan to international ones and many specialising in fish dishes such as suquet de peix (fish and shellfish casserole), fresh fish from the bay and of course paella. The local fishing port produces much of the fish for the local market and the boats unload and auction their catches at 6.00pm daily. A lively bustling town where people come from all over the world to see its famous carnival, fiestas (of which there are many,) firework displays, music concerts and sports events.

Empuriabrava is the largest residential marina in mainland Europe if not the world with 23 kms of navigable canals with public and private moorings. Many of the properties have private access to their boats at the bottom of their gardens. There are boat hire companies and a yacht club that organizes regattas etc. There is a lovely marina with lots of restaurants and shops for a lazy day in the sun. The children will love the long sandy beach with plenty of room for sunbathing even in the summer months.

Peralada is not just famous for its amazing golf course it's the place to go a buy your world famous Peralada Cava – beautiful. Figueres is the birth place of artist Salvador Dali, the museum Theatre –Meseu Gala Salvador Dali was designed by him and holds many of his works of art is a great attraction to visit.

Cadaques a small town which was the birth place of Dali is really worth will seeing for its stunning buildings all of which are white.

Girona has a fantastic mix of the new town – great for shopping and the old town with its Cathedral, Old Fortifications and Jewish quarter also well worth a visit.

If you fancy exploring further afield, to the North of the Bay of Roses is or course the French boarder which is 10 – 15 km, sample the French way of life with a 20 minutes drive. However if you really want a few days in a great city, Barcelona is only an hour and half drive away or even quicker on the train, with 9 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, fantastic shopping, Porto Olympico and of course the lovely beach.
