Six kilometers west of Pals stands the medieval town of Peratallada (or
Peretallada). It's name derives from perda tallada, meaning
'hewn stone' - the stone used to build the houses was carved out of
rock.
The town has preserved it's rustic atmosphere but has also retained a
zest for life in it's labyrinth of narrow streets and squares. The old
town centre is dominated by Peratallada Castle with it's walled
enclosure. Within this there are various towers, and one in particular
dominates the skyline of the town for it's sheer size and presence.

The restaurants of the Castell de Peratallada hotel have a fine
reputation for excellent Emporda cuisine, but the food and wines are
quite expensive. One is spoilt for choice of restaurant within the town
- many with wonderful settings and serving good value, Catalan food. La
Riera, El Boirinot, L'Arc Vell and Carnou are just a few.
Peratallada is the ideal base for exploring the Baix Emporda region and
Catalonia as a whole. There are a good selection of hotels within the
old town, with self-catering Apartments and villas spread around the
outlying area.
