Roses has the excellent sailing school,
GEN Roses (Grup d'Esports Nautics de Roses), which was formed in 1979
from the merging of The Badia de Roses club, dedicated to
diving and the Windsurfing de Roses dedicated to the new
sailing sport of windsurfing, which was beginning to expand. There were
also ex members of a disbanded Club de Mar who were thinking
of re-founding the club.
When the Olympic Games came to Catalonia GEN put a proposal to the
organizing committee to bring sailing competitions to Roses, but in the
end they decided to construct the Port Olimpic de Barcelona
(Barcelona Olympic Marina). Nevertheless some of the members of GEN
participated as staff in a very active way in the sailing trials of BCN
92.

The Bay of Roses is an ideal location to experience the exhilaration of
catamaran sailing. Funtastic offers everything from two-hour guided
excursions along the bay to an intensive course of eight sessions of
ninety minutes.
There are further opportunities for dinghy sailing right around the Bay
of Roses, and larger crafts can be hired at the port in Empuriabrava.
For those visiting by sea from other areas of the Mediterranean, both
the Roses Leisure Port (Port
Roses) and Empuriabrava Marina (
EmpuriaPort
) have temporary berths.
Permanent berths are available at Port Roses (see our
